StillTabs vs FeedOff: two free Reels blockers compared
StillTabs and FeedOff are both completely free Reels and Shorts blockers for iPhone, with no subscription and no in-app purchases, so the choice comes down to features, not price. FeedOff covers more networks (including LinkedIn, and Facebook with the News Feed hidden), can block the real apps with Screen Time, and its App Store label says "Data Not Collected". StillTabs focuses on making Instagram and YouTube feel like the real apps, with a native toolbar, tabs that stay loaded, up to five accounts per platform and Home Screen icons that need no Screen Time permission.

What the two apps have in common
Both apps show the real Instagram and YouTube websites inside their own app and hide the parts built to keep you scrolling: Reels, Shorts, Explore, suggested posts and autoplay. Your DMs, stories, search and the accounts you follow stay.
Both are free, with no subscription, no in-app purchases, no ads and no account. In both, you sign in on each platform's own login page, so your password goes to Instagram or YouTube, not to the app maker. Both need iOS 16.0 or later.
If price is your main question, there is no difference. Both answer the search for a free Reels blocker with no subscription.
Where FeedOff is better
- More networks. FeedOff covers Instagram, YouTube, X, Reddit, LinkedIn and Facebook, and on Facebook it hides the News Feed as well as Reels. StillTabs has no LinkedIn, and its Facebook, X and Reddit support is still in beta.
- It can block the real apps. FeedOff's Shield uses Apple's Screen Time to make the official apps open to a block screen, on a schedule or all the time. It works for TikTok and any other app too. StillTabs never locks other apps.
- An even shorter privacy label. FeedOff's App Store label says "Data Not Collected", and its policy says it has no analytics at all. StillTabs' label is "Data Not Linked to You", with analytics off unless you turn them on.
- Rules you can read. FeedOff publishes the file that decides what it hides on GitHub, and updates it without an app update.
- Fine-grained toggles. Each hidden part is a switch, and there are extras such as hiding AI-labelled posts or reposts on Instagram, and grayscale per app.
- Widgets and a computer version. Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, Control Center buttons, and a Chrome extension for YouTube and X.
- A few ratings already. 4.3 from 6 ratings on the US App Store. StillTabs is new and has none yet.
Where StillTabs is better
- It feels like the app. StillTabs draws Instagram's toolbar natively, keeps each tab loaded so you don't wait for reloads, and supports edge-swipe gestures. What that looks like.
- Several accounts. Up to five sign-ins per platform. How multiple accounts work.
- The habit fix needs no permission. StillTabs' Home Screen icons are named Instagram, YouTube and so on, and open StillTabs, so your thumb goes where it always did. No Screen Time access, and the real apps are left alone. How the icons work.
- Simple modes. Four modes, all free: Off, Standard, Strict and Blackout. Blackout leaves only search, profiles and DMs, if you want Instagram only for messages.
- Fewer permissions. No Screen Time access, no device management and no Safari extension.
Which one should you pick?
- Pick FeedOff if you use LinkedIn or Facebook a lot, want the official apps (or TikTok) locked with Screen Time, or want an app whose App Store label says "Data Not Collected".
- Pick StillTabs if you mainly use Instagram and YouTube, want them to feel like the real apps, juggle more than one account, or would rather not give any app Screen Time access.
Both are free, so you can try both and keep the one that fits. Our comparison overview covers more apps, and this page shows what the paid ones charge.
What neither can do
Both show each network's website inside their own app, so some features of the official apps may be missing in either. Both can briefly miss something when a network changes its site, until the filters are updated.
Common questions
Is FeedOff really free?
Yes. FeedOff's US App Store page lists it as free, and it says it has no subscription, no in-app purchases and no ads. StillTabs is the same: free with nothing to buy.
What is a good FeedOff alternative?
StillTabs is a free FeedOff alternative for Instagram and YouTube, with a native Instagram toolbar, tabs that stay loaded, up to five accounts per platform and four free modes. If you need LinkedIn, Facebook without the News Feed, or Screen Time app blocking, FeedOff covers those and StillTabs does not.
Does StillTabs block the Instagram app like FeedOff's Shield?
No. StillTabs never locks or changes other apps and asks for no Screen Time permission. Instead, its Home Screen icons named Instagram, YouTube and so on open StillTabs. FeedOff's Shield uses Screen Time to block the real apps on a schedule.
Which one collects less data, StillTabs or FeedOff?
FeedOff's App Store label says "Data Not Collected" and its policy says it has no analytics. StillTabs' label says "Data Not Linked to You", and its analytics stay off unless you turn them on. Neither runs your logins through its own servers.
Do StillTabs and FeedOff work with TikTok?
Neither shows a calm version of TikTok. FeedOff's Shield can block the TikTok app; StillTabs does not cover TikTok at all.
