What is StillTabs?
StillTabs is a free iPhone app that shows Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, X and Reddit without Reels, Shorts, Explore, "For you" feeds and autoplay. Your messages, search, and posts from people you follow stay. There is no subscription, no in-app purchase and no account, and it does not track you.
What StillTabs does
StillTabs removes the parts of social apps designed to keep you scrolling, and leaves the parts you came for. You open Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, X or Reddit from the StillTabs launcher, sign in on each platform's own page, and use it as usual, minus short-form video, endless feeds and autoplay.
It doesn't block the apps you enjoy or set another screen-time limit. It changes what the platform shows you, so opening Instagram for one message means seeing one message.
What goes and what stays, per platform
| Platform | What goes | What stays |
|---|---|---|
| Reels, the Explore grid, suggested posts, the algorithmic feed (it opens on Following) | Your friends' posts, stories, DMs | |
| YouTube | Shorts everywhere, autoplaying previews, the endless homepage | Search, subscriptions, the video you came for |
| Facebook (beta) | The Reels tab | Friends, groups, messages |
| X (beta) | The "For you" tab, suggested accounts, trends | Following, search, the news |
| Reddit (beta) | Autoplaying videos, "open in app" prompts | Your communities, threads and comments |

Four modes: you decide how strict it gets
- Off: the platform stays close to normal; only the "open in app" prompts and pop-ups go.
- Standard: Shorts, the Reels tab, Explore, "For you" tabs, suggested posts and autoplay go. Your feeds stay.
- Strict: short-form video is gone everywhere and home feeds give way to search. Instagram keeps your stories; YouTube opens on your subscriptions.
- Blackout: no feeds, no stories, no Explore. Just search, profiles and your messages.
You can switch modes whenever you like, and each mode is listed per platform in Settings → Blocking Mode, so you always know exactly what is hidden.

How it works, and what it never sees
Every filter runs on your phone. StillTabs loads each platform's own website and changes only what is drawn on your screen, the same way a content blocker does in Safari. Pages come straight from Instagram, YouTube and the rest; StillTabs runs no server in between, so your passwords, messages and browsing never pass through us.
StillTabs does not track you. Its App Store privacy label is "Data Not Linked to You", with nothing under "Data Used to Track You" or "Data Linked to You". Usage analytics are off by default and only start if you switch them on; even then they are tied to a random ID on your phone, never to your name or accounts, and never include what you watch, search or write. There are no ads and nothing is sold. Pages load straight from each platform: StillTabs runs no proxy, so it never sees your passwords, messages or what you browse. The privacy policy lists every event in full.
Built to feel like the app, just calmer
StillTabs opens on a launcher of tiles, one per platform. Each tile grows with the time you spend there, and the launcher shows how many distractions were filtered out along the way, so you can see where your time really goes without a nagging limit. A Home Screen widget shows the same tiles.
Inside a platform it looks and works like the platform: same login, same content, same layout. A swipe from the bottom-left edge takes you back to the launcher from anywhere.
Who makes StillTabs
StillTabs is made by a small independent team, not a tech company. We built it because we wanted it ourselves. There are no ads to sell and no data to sell, so nothing about the app is designed to keep you in it longer. Write to us at support@stilltabs.com; we read everything.
When StillTabs is not the right fit
- You use Android. StillTabs is iPhone only for now.
- You want it on your laptop. A browser extension for Chrome, Brave, Arc and Edge is coming but isn't out yet; join the mailing list to hear when it is.
- You use TikTok or Snapchat. They aren't supported. Those apps are short-form video at their core, so there is little to keep once it's gone.
- You want to post videos or Reels. You can post photos to your Instagram feed and Story from StillTabs, but Instagram only takes photos this way, so use Instagram's own app for videos and Reels.
