How to stop YouTube autoplay on iPhone

Updated 4 November 2026 · By the StillTabs team

Turn off autoplay in YouTube under your profile picture → Settings → Autoplay, and stop feed previews under Settings → General → Playback in feeds → Off. That stops the next video starting by itself, but Shorts and the endless homepage stay. StillTabs removes those too, for free.

YouTube's own settings

  1. Autoplay next video: tap your profile picture → Settings → Autoplay, and switch it off.
  2. Previews in your feed: Settings → General → Playback in feeds → Off (or Wi-Fi only).

What those settings leave

Shorts still have their own tab and shelves, the Shorts player still scrolls endlessly, and Home is still an endless list of recommendations. StillTabs' Standard mode stops previews and removes the Shorts tab and shelves; Strict also removes Shorts everywhere and opens YouTube on your subscriptions.

StillTabs is free on the App Store, for iPhone. No subscription, no in-app purchases, no account. iOS 16 or later.
